CERN Visit 2014

Saturday, September 20, 2014 - 17:15
CERN Point 5 - CMS Experiment, Cessy, France

CERN is the world's largest particle physics laboratory, and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is one of the most complex scientific instruments ever built.

Members of the Club had the unique opportunity to visit the underground cavern of the CMS detector (http://home.web.cern.ch/about/experiments/cms). The longsought Higgs boson particle was discovered by CMS and ATLAS detectors at CERN. For the theoretical prediction of the Higgs boson, Professors Peter Higgs and Francois Englert were awarded the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physics.

Organized by Gregory Timofiejew.
